  •      I participated in the COST Action PACT meeting held in Lisbon, 25th -27 th March. Renata Costa (University of Porto) and Mariana Aguiar (University of Lisbon ) presented the paper "Techno-Economic Feasibility Analysis of Hydrogen-Maritime corridors: the port of Sines as a stepping stone", in which I also participated.
  •      My colleague Renata Costa, a researcher at the Faculty of Science and a Master’s student whom I have the pleasure of supervising in the Master's in Environmental Economics and    Management at the University of Porto presented her research, “Technological Challenges in Energy Transition and Maritime Decarbonization Strategies,” at the 9th Annual APEEN Conference (19–20 March).Her participation was supported by FEP – Faculty of Economics, University of Porto, through the Superbock Prize for Excellence in Research, which I was honoured to receive last year. It is especially rewarding to see this prize fostering the dissemination of research produced by master's students at FEP . 
  • I have been in the COST Action -  EU Potarch  3rd General Meeting  22155, which took place on February 17–19, 2026, at Transylvania University in Brașov, Romania. On the first day, I presented the case study Potarch in Portuguese Food Living Heritage together with Renata Costa and Paula Soares as part of the joint paper of this COST Action  " Place and role of Potarch in Culinary traditions in historical and contemporary times" that is being led by A. Fostikov.  Other papers I participated presented in the conference was the " Resin and charcoal educational trails in Portugal integrating traditional activities and sustainable edication and tourism led by Amélia Branco and with contributions of myself, Paula Soares, Renata Costa, Joana Vieira and Carlos Faísca and  "Reinvention of the resin industry: surving or transforming?" led by Renata Costa, Paula Soares and Joana Vieira and contributions of myself and Amélia Branco. On the second day, Working Group meetings where  wg4 was involved were held, during which participants continued work on the key objectives of the Action, focusing on the development of a joint educational trail, a catalogue of production maps, archives, photographs and other materials, the preparation of a white paper for policy makers and innovative tourism aligned with forest heritage preservation.

  •   I  am now  working group 4  Environmental History  Leader in  Eu-Cost Action 22155  Potarch ,  A special issue on the  topic  I have been engaging with several colleagues from Europe and Portugal has been published here.  Included in my contributions  is the paper industries and Environmental Impact from the Middle ages to the early modern period led by Alexandra Fostikov and 29 co-authors (!) and the paper The Resin Processing Industry in Portugal: a historical perspective led by Renata Costa, with contributions also from Koldo Trapaga-Monchet, Ana Brandão and Paula Soares.
  • I have presented my research with Koldo Trapaga-Monchet on Lisbon and conflicts over forest resources in the International Conference Economy and the International Economy in Europe and the Balkans, Belgrade 30-31 October.O
  • My co-author Renata Costa ( University of Porto) is going to  present in the workshop  Ports & Cities & Territories: Frameworks for an Inclusive Energy Transition  on the 25/09 the project we are initiating on decarbonization of portuguese ports and which will be part of her dissertation project.  
  •     New Papers! The summer break saw two papers on world  transports I participated within the Long-Exergy World Database Project , with the lead of  Bernardo Tostes (University of Lisbon) and contributions of Tãnia Sousa ( University of Lisbon), Paul Brockway (University of Leeds) and Matthew Heun ( Calvin University) and myself, accepted for publication.  The first  is published in Applied Energy  and the second  in Transport Research Part D: Transport and the Environment. 
  •  I presented three papers in the  World Economic History Congress 2025 in Lund  28th July-1 of August : Energy Decoupling and Decarbonization in Europe: a Long term View of the Role of Electrification” ( with Tânia Sousa, Zeus Guevara, Laura Felício and Ricardo Pinto) , ”Electric Dreams: Solving Iberian Energy Trilemma Through Renewable Electricity” ( with Isabel Bartolomé)  and ”Critical Materials and Energy in a Long-run Comparison”
  • I have presented Understanding the Forest Economy without Forest Statistics: The case of Portugal 1870-1914, joint work with Amélia Branco (University of Lisbon, ISEG)   at the  workshop Forest of Numbers organized by  Giacomo Bonan and his   ERC Project Inwood . 
  • I presented the paper "Electric dreams: solving Iberian energy trilemma through renewable electricity"  joint work with Isabel Bartolomé ( University of Seville) at   the Second Research Meeting on Sustainability , June 17 ( Porto) and at the  Sustainable Transitions Research Network Conference in Lisbon, June 23 to 27.
  • I have participated in  Exergy Economics workshop in Leeds 11-13 June.
  • I participated in the  Second General EU - Cost  Action 22155 Potarch Meeting in Poznan, Poland 19-21 March, a network  for the past, present and future of major non-timber forest raw materials and products in Europe and beyond.   I presented  the poster  Charcoal: a long-run economic, social and environmental history", joint work with Koldo Trapaga-Monchet, Renata Costa  and Ana Brandão.   This poster was second in the poster competition and was awarded  a Honor Mention Prize.  My co-author Renata Costa presented  " The interwoven Historical, Technological and Economic Perspectives on Tar and Resin  Derivates in Portugal" a paper  where  Koldo , Ana  and myself  are also contributors.
